In 1888 Winfield Scott paid $2.50 per acre to purchase
640 acres that ultimately became Scottsdale Arizona.
He is the founder of Scottsdale AZ.
Scottsdale’s original name was Orangedale.
In 1909, The "Little Red Schoolhouse" was built for a student
body of 32 pupils. Today, the "Little Red Schoolhouse" is home
to the Scottsdale Historical Society.
Scottsdale’s first newspaper was The Scottsdale Bulletin
published by playwright Roy George in 1922.
